3rd grade Primary students celebrate Diwali Hindu Festival

Indra van Leeuwen’s 3rd grade students celebrated Diwali, the Hindu festival where everyone expressed their best wishes through handmade crafts. Once finished, each student read their wish and hung it on one of the trees in the College.

Diwali  is a festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs in India. The festival usually lasts five days and is celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar month Kartika. One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual «victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance»

In the lead-up to Diwali, celebrants will prepare by cleaning, renovating, and decorating their homes and workplaces with oil lamps. During Diwali, people wear their finest clothes, illuminate the interior and exterior of their homes.
